I remember the beautiful Christmas cards my parents would pick out when I was little. I remember my dad would sit down with boxes of these gorgeous cards and write personal notes in each one. He is a lefty and very particular about his pens: blue fountain pens... still to this day. Which for a lefty poses a problem. So his blotter paper is always nearby.
Every year I like to send out Christmas cards and I think it is because of these memories that I do. Part of the love of sending a card is finding the time to sit down and write. I love to put on a few Christmas tunes (usually A Charlie Brown Christmas), pour a glass of wine and write. I really do think of each person I am writing to and I like that feeling... and by putting that card in the mail that person knows that I have been thinking of them too.
My parents instilled the courtesy, manners and custom of thank you notes in me... but without knowing they showed me the thoughtfulness of a Christmas card too.
My parents rock.
